Somehow I missed that the BMW launched a model called X4 and when I understand that I was surprised. The BMW X4 looks like X6 but it's smaller. Actually, the BMW X4 is based on the X3 platform. The BMW X4 is Sports Activity Coupe (SAC). Maybe I'm getting old because I don't understand the X4, X6, and the models with the front-wheel-drive of BMW.
Anyway, the BMW X4 was introduced in 2014. This model is 4671 mm (183.9 in) long, 1624 mm (63.9 in) high, and 2089 mm (82.2 in) wide (1881 mm (74.1 in) excluding the mirrors). The wheelbase is 2810 mm (110.6 in) long, the front wheelbase is 1616 mm (63.6 in) wide and the rear wheel base is 1632 mm (64.3 in) wide. The dimension from the front bumper to the middle of the front wheel is 861 mm (33.9 in) and from the middle of the rear wheel to the rear bumper is 1000 mm (39.4 in) long.

Inside the BMW X4 dimensions are 1014 mm (39.9 in) high and 1482 mm (58.3 in) wide for the front seats and 950 mm (37.4 in) high and 1458 mm (57.4 in) wide for the rear seats. The trunk volume is 500 liters but it could be increased up to 1400 liters. The rear backrest could be folded down in 40:20:40 ratios as standard. The automatically opening tailgate also comes as standard.

The engine army of the BMW X4 included four petrol engines and three diesel engines. The BMW X4 xDrive petrol engines used BMW TwinPower Turbo technology: twin-scroll turbocharger and High Precision Direct Injection.

The BMW X4 xDrive20i is a 4-cylinder in-line petrol engine with 4 valves per cylinder. The volume of the engine is 1,997 cc and it produces 184 hp in the range of 5,000-6,250 rpm; the max torque is 270 Nm (199 lb-ft) from 1,250 to 4,500 rpm. The fuel consumption of this engine with standard tires (225/60 R17) is 9l/100 km (26 US mpg) urban; 6.1l/100 km (39 US mpg) extra-urban; 7.2l/100 km (33 US mpg) combined; the CO2 emission amount is 168g/100 km. The acceleration from 0-100 km (0-62 mph) is 8.1 seconds. The top speed is 212 km/h (132 mph).

The BMW X4 xDrive28i has the same parameters as xDrive20i but it's more powerful. The xDrive28i produces 245 hp @ 5000-6500 rpm; the max torque is 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) in range 1250-4800 rpm. The fuel consumption of this engine with standard tires is 9.1l/100 km (26 US mpg) urban; 6.2l/100 km (38 US mpg) extra-urban; 7.3l/100 km (32 US mpg) combined; the CO2 emission amount is 169g/100 km. The acceleration from 0-100 km (0-62 mph) is 6.4 seconds. The top speed is 232 km/h (144 mph).

The BMW X4 xDrive35i is 6-cylinder in-line petrol engine with 4 valves per cylinder. Its volume is 2979 cc and the max power is 306 hp @ 5800-6400 rpm; the max torque is 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) @ 1200-5000 rpm. The fuel consumption in urban driving is 10.7l/100 km (22 US mpg); extra-urban: 6.9l/100 km (34 US mpg) and combined: 8.3l/100 km (28 US mpg); the CO2 emission amount is 193g/100 km. The acceleration from 0-100 km (0-62 mph) is 5.5 seconds. The top speed is 247 km/h (153 mph).

The diesel engine technologies available in the BMW X4 are BMW TwinPower Turbo technology: turbocharger with variable inlet geometry and common-rail direct injection.

The standard diesel engines in the BMW X4 start with xDrive20d. This version has in-line 4 cylinder diesel engine with 4 valves per cylinder. The volume is 1,995 cc and the engine produces 190 hp @ 4,000 rpm; max torque: 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) @ 1,750 – 2,500 rpm. The fuel consumption with the standard 6-speed manual transmission is 6.2l/100 km (38 US mpg) in urban driving; extra-urban driving BMW X4 xDrive20d consumes 5.0l/100 km (47 US mpg) and combined fuel consumption is 5.4l/100 km (44 US mpg); the CO2 emission amount is 143g/100 km with manual transmission and 138g/100 km with an automatic one.

The BMW X4 xDrive20d with 8-speed automatic transmission has almost the same fuel consumption as the 6-speed manual transmission. In city driving BMW X4 xDrive20d consumes 5.7l/100 km (41 US mpg); extra-urban: 5.0l/100 km (47 US mpg) (as with manual transmission) and combined: 5.2l/ 100 km (45 US mpg). The acceleration from 0-100 km (0-62 mph) is 8 seconds for both transmissions. The top speed is 212 km/h (132 mph).

The BMW X4 xDrive30d has 2,993 cc in-line 6-cylinders with 4 valves per cylinder diesel engine. The power of this X4 version is 258 hp @ 4,000 rpm; the max torque is 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) in the range of 1,500 – 3,000 rpm. The fuel consumption urban/extra-urban/combined: 6.5l/5.6l/5.9l per 100 km (36/42/40 US mpg). The acceleration from 0-100 km (0-62 mph) is 5.8 seconds. The top speed is 234 km/h (145 mph).

The BMW X4 xDrive35d is the most powerful diesel version. Its displacement is also 2993 cc in-line 6-cylinder with 4 valves per cylinder but the power is different. The top diesel version produces 313 hp @ 4400 rpm and max torque is 630 Nm (465 lb-ft) @ 1500-2500 rpm. The BMW X4 with xDrive35d engine consumption is 6.7l/100 km (35 US mpg) in urban driving; 5.5l/100 km (43 US mpg) in extra-urban driving; 6.0l/100 km (39 US mpg) combined driving; the CO2 emission amount is 157g/100 km. The BMW X4 xDrive35d accelerates from 0-100 km (0-62 mph) in 5.2 seconds. The top speed is 212 km/h (132 mph).

As I mentioned the 6-speed manual transmission is fitted to the engine xDrive20d and the 8-spped automatic gearbox is available as an option. All other engines come with 8-speed automatic transmission as standard.

The front suspension of the BMW X4 has a double-joint spring strut axle in lightweight steel construction. The rear suspension has a five-link axle also in lightweight steel construction.

The standard tires for BMW X4 are 225/60 R17 with light-alloy rims 7.5J x 17. The most powerful version comes with tires 245/50 R18 with light-alloy rims 8J x 18. The optional equipment includes 19 and 20-inch alloy rims.

BMW EfficientDynamics system includes standard Brake Energy Regeneration, Power Steering, Auto Start-Stop function, Optimum Shift Indicator (manual), ECO PRO mode, intelligent lightweight design, on-demand operation of ancillary units, map-controlled oil pump, final drive with optimized warm-up behavior. The tires with reduced rolling resistance are an option.

The standard safety equipment of the BMW X4 includes airbags for driver and front passenger, side airbags for driver and front passenger, head airbags front and rear, three-point inertia-reel seat belts on all seats with belt stopper, belt tensioner, and belt force limiter at the front.
